Ad for Web Site

Twin Cities Food Finds Ad

This is an ad for Twin Cities Food Finds, an online guide of menus for area restaurants. The photography was provided by the client.

We designed this ad knowing that it would need to be updated with new photography later. By using simple blocks, we could easily update the images and even the colors to create a very different ad for different publications or to target different audiences. This was a very cost-effective solution for the client who didn't have to pay us to create a whole new design.

The design also allows for various applications. By simply extending the black area on the bottom, it could be used as an ad in almost any size publication, or be used as a poster, sign or flyer.

Poster for University Speaker Series

The Middle East and US Foreign Policy Poster

This poster was created to promote a speaker series sponsored by the Institute for Global Studies at the University of Minnesota. We worked with a group of academics to create visuals that we all agreed represented the essence of the speaker series.

Since this poster would be mailed to locations both on and off campus, its 8" x 22" size folds neatly into a standard envelope. The vertical shape also makes it stand out when displayed on a wall or bulletin board with many other posters and ads.

Postcard Promoting Annual Event

This postcard promoted the Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association's Annual Fundraising Gala. The theme was "A Taste of Midtown" and featured live jazz music, dancing and food from neighborhood restaurants.

Powderhorn Park Neighborhood, whose history dates back to the early 20th century, is directly south of downtown. The image of the skyline at dusk represented the location of the neighborhood and gala, while the colors and overall design conveyed the gala's theme.

"Spaces of War" Poster

This poster was created for the European Studies Consortium at the University of Minnesota to promote their lecture series, "Spaces of War."

Being an abstract and subjective concept, "Spaces of War" was difficult to communicate visually. So, we created an Art Deco inspired poster to reflect the early 20th century when France was marked by two wars.

Self-Mailer Brochure and Poster

Swahili Open Day Brochure and Poster

This self-mailer is both a poster and a brochure. We designed this for the Institute of Global Studies at the University of Minnesota so that it could be hung up to promote the event or mailed without an envelope. The backside of the poster gives additional information about the speaker in a brochure format.

Since it didn't need an envelope, this design was a very cost-effective way of mailing the promotional piece.

International Education Week Poster

We created this logo and poster for the University of Minnesota's International Education Week. The poster was 8.5" x 22" and listed all of the event-related lectures, workshops and receptions.

The goal of this project was to create a bright, attractive design that would stand out on a wall of posters. The design needed to have an international feel but could not be associated with any particular country, ethnicity or region.
